February 2020 | Newsletter No. 10HRS-130 Loudspeakers win The Absolute Sound Editors’ Choice Award Welcome to our February newsletter. Our thanks to our long term readers and a warm welcome to new subscribers. The big news in this issue is our HRS-130 loudspeaker receiving its second Editors’ Choice award from The Absolute Sound. Our HRS-130 loudspeaker has just received its second Editors’ Choice award from the top US audio magazine The Absolute Sound. That makes a total of three awards that the HRS-130 has received from this magazine: we must be doing something right. The middleweight contender… Cards on the table. I’ve owned the YG Carmel (reviewed here) and the YG Carmel 2 (reviewed here), each of which I’ve reviewed in these pages in January 2012 and July 2015 respectively. You can read them here and weep. I’m addicted to the ultra-high resolution, low distortion, lightning reflexes, dynamic range and the holographic imaging of the Carmel speakers. They are not for everyone. As I traipsed about from floor to floor, desperately hoping that the packed elevator wouldn’t resemble a Turkish sauna or simply break down, I came across a large room wherein stood a gleaming set of black Critical Mass Systems Maxxum racks that looked as though they had emerged from the Ferrari paint shop or its equivalent. The equipment they were supporting was almost an afterthought because the racks themselves were so fetching—to the max, as it were. Fast forward about a decade or so and I receive…

What I find interesting is that the fundamental concepts and design geometry that Mark Markel had identified years ago has remained essentially unchanged within their product line. In today’s popular culture, a large cross-section of people are drawn to new, improved, enhanced, or next generation, all of which basically boils down to the concept of different. Now, Analysis Plus has developed refinements to their products over the years, with advancements in conductor materials, terminations, and minor tweaks of the…
